Reference material, not instruction

Novaris Photo Guides are reference and planning materials: shot lists, diagrams, charts, and worksheets for photographers to use while planning and working. They are not courses, lessons, or coaching, and they include no feedback on anyone's work.

Settings and setups are starting points

Gear, light, venues, and subjects all vary. The settings, lighting setups, and diagrams in the guides are starting points for you to adjust to your situation. They are not guaranteed to produce any particular result, and you remain responsible for the choices you make on a shoot.

Your responsibilities when photographing

When you use the guides, you are responsible for:

  • obtaining permission or permits where they are required, including for parks, venues, and public spaces;
  • respecting private property and following site rules;
  • getting model releases and property releases where they are needed;
  • following local laws on photographing people and places;
  • using equipment safely, including lighting stands, cables, and flash around people.

Independence

Novaris Photo Guides is independent. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any camera, lens, lighting, or software manufacturer. The guides describe equipment by type and do not recommend any brand.
